OUR HEALING COLLECTIVE
KATE RUOCCO, COUNSELOR, CLINICAL INTERN
HI, I'M KATE
You may feel that everything is muddled, disconnected, or off-track. Perhaps you’re experiencing fogginess, adrift in a sea of not-knowing what to do, or how to gather the strength or focus to go about doing it. This confusion might feel like your thoughts are stuck in a hamster wheel, while your body is moving through molasses. Your thoughts and emotions could be working against each other, resulting in a struggle to express what you really feel, want, or need to say. This may leave you feeling misunderstood and disconnected from yourself for so long that you start to accept it as the “new normal.” Physical symptoms may show up as struggles with sleep or eating, unexplained pain, tension, or even weight loss/gain. Continuing to short-change your needs and make excuses for others could land you in a job, relationship, or circumstance you realize you never wanted in the first place. You do not have to live with this turmoil; you deserve happiness and peace in your mind, body, and spirit.
I know what it’s like to live for someone else’s wants or desires. I’ve learned that denying our own needs, people-pleasing, or “going with it” because someone told us it’s what we “should” do can lead us to situations we never chose for ourselves. With nearly fifteen years working in corporate settings primarily in project management roles, I witnessed first-hand what can happen over time when we shortchange ourselves for the sake of others.
“I BELIEVE THE INFORMATION WE NEED TO HEAL ALREADY LIES WITHIN"
When we finally have someone in our lives who is truly present and available to listen, we have an opportunity to reconnect with a deep knowing of ourselves. I became a therapist to be that present, listening person, who can aid people with the process of naming their pain and support them toward living their lives as they define it.
I am committed to the practice of demystifying sources of pain through a whole-person, person-centered therapeutic technique. Work in hospital chaplaincy, yoga instruction, and holistic healing spaces allowed me to support persons from multitudinous backgrounds, identities, and contexts utilizing a holistic approach to therapy. As a medium, I cannot unwed my perception of others’ energy from the therapeutic process. Therefore, what I deal in as a therapist addresses more than tangible aspects of the human experience: I work with energy and spirit in tandem with those tangible aspects. I practice in this way simply because I have witnessed it to be a profoundly fruitful path toward healing.
I believe opportunity for healing and a life well-lived is one that lies within our very beings. By thoughtfully delving into our lived histories, current embodied states, and our spiritual selves, we make the unknown known and no longer have to be defined by our suffering. Finally, we have a chance to move forward, toward flourishing.
I know how daunting and scary it can be to think about facing the sources of pain or confusion in your life. It can feel impossible to know where to look to find solutions when your life feels off track. When the only way out of the haze is through, know that you will never be made to journey alone; I am here to usher you to the other side, with love and intention.
